Pune: Car maker Volkswagen India on Wednesday said it rolled out Ameo from its Chakan plant and would rapidly ramp-up the production to build up enough inventory before market introduction.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, "This roll-out means a lot to us as it explains to the world what 'Make in India' actually means."
The company has invested approximately Rs.720 crore in the plant for the development of the compact sedan, setting up new equipment for production as well as ramping up the manufacturing.
Launching the car, Lauermann said, "This day marks an important event in the journey of Volkswagen India. The Ameo symbolises yet another first as it has specifically been created for the Indian customers."
The Volkswagen Group entered the country 14 years ago with Skoda. The premium Audi brand and mass brand Volkswagen entered in 2007, while Porsche and Lamborghini followed in 2012.
