Srinagar: One army man was injured in a grenade attack on 50 RR camp in Kakapora of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier two militants were gunned down in an encounter carried out by the Army in Nowgam sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
“The militants opened fire at the Army which was retaliated triggering a gun battle in which two militants have been killed so far, and the operation is still underway,” an official said.
According to reports, the movement of militants was detected on Thursday morning near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tutmar Gali area North Kashmir in frontier Kupwara district, atleast 120 km from northwest of Srinagar.
The Army had cleared-off the area and had blocked all exit points making sure the militants didn’t get a chance to escape.
The officer said the group of militants had most likely crossed into the Indian side of the LoC from the Pakistan-administered part of the state. On crossing, the troops of the Rashtriya Rifles challenged them.
This is the first infiltration bid in the Nowgam sector this year that has been foiled by the Indian Army.
