PM Narendra Modi inaugurates 65th plenary session of the North Eastern Council

Shillong: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the 65th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) meeting in Shillong and will also release a special cover and a stamp brought out by the Department of Posts to mark the occasion.
In the summit, PM Modi said,” Northeast can be the basket of organic food for everyone”. He even added,” If we force development on organic farming it would help the N-E region greatly.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Minister of State for Development of North Eastern region Jitendra Singh inaugurated the two-day Plenary Meeting of North Eastern Council, which is being attended by Governors and chief ministers of the entire eight States of North Eastern region.
The North Eastern Council is the nodal agency of the Ministry of Development for North Eastern Region that comprises of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
It was constituted in 1971 which marked the beginning of a new chapter of concerted and planned endeavour for the rapid development of the Region.
