New Delhi: The Haryana District General of Police (DGP) KP Singh who made headlines on Thursday for his remark which advocated the right for a common man to take life, clarified that his intention had solely been to spread awareness.

"I only said, if someone tries to rape any woman, there are sections in the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which allows you to kill someone in self-defence," said Singh.

The Haryana DGP further stated that his intention was to spread awareness that one must try to intervene and engage criminal during such incidents.

KP Singh made a controversial remark on Thursday when he said that if someone insults a woman or tries to kill a person, the common man has the right to take the criminal's life.
