Hyderabad: The Hyderabad University students on Saturday morning staged a protest in front of the main gate of the varsity, alleging that the university authorities removed the tents and posters put up by the students at the protest venue.
The students also alleged that the university desecrated the Babasaheb Ambedkar banner. The incident took place at around 12 am. The tents were put after Dalit student Rohit Vemula’s suicide on January 17.
“We are sitting here from the time the tents and Babasaheb’s banners were stolen. We blocked the main gate because they denied any role in stealing our tents and banners. In the morning, they came and pushed us away and once again committed the grievous crime of taking away the portrait of Babasaheb Ambedkar from us. One security officer contradicted his colleague (who, in the midnight had denied any role in removing Tents and banners) and said, “Yes, we have removed it following University’s instructions” in an arrogant manner. We resisted and retrieved the portrait. We will not end this blockade. We will not tolerate this insult to”, the university students said.
The university authorities, however, denied any role in stealing the tents and banners.
