New Delhi: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Saturday held a press conference on two years of NDA government, at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi.
Chidambaram said that the BJP is celebrating two years of the NDA govt but there are many negatives that NDA needs to work on.
The former Finance Minister said that Shiv Sena, a close ally of the party, has also been extremely critical of BJP and the reason why the mood of the people is somber and sullen is ‘economy’. There is no evidence of any enthusiastic participation by the people in these so-called celebrations, added Chidambaram.
Reiterating faith in Raghuram Rajan, Chidambaram said UPA Govt has appointed one of the finest economists of the country and the party has full faith in him even now.
Chidambaram started his speech with the positive things that the BJP govt has done in these two years.
The production of coal has increased by 8.15 % and 4.6 % in two years.
Helped by low oil prices, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation which was at 6.7 % in June, 2014 came down to 3.7 % in July, 2015 but has since risen to 5.4 % in April 2016.
The most notable failure of the NDA govt has been in job creation.
The govt has maintained and not accelerated the pace of building roads, he added.
The govt’s record in agriculture is dismal. Growth was negative, 0.2 % between 2014 and 2015 and meager 1 % in 2015 and 2016.
BJP govt has shown negligence in managing the consequences of two years of drought.
If agriculture and industry are in distress, then what is there to celebrate?
Govt is not the cause of the drought, but they should be able to anticipate and tackle the situation.
SC has slammed the govt on passing the buck when it comes to offering drought relief to farmers and people.
Make in India at present stage is a non-starter.

There is no evidence of private investments in Greenfield Manufacturing Industries.
