Guwahati: Proclaiming that anti-varsity activities had taken place inside the campus, Assam's Gauhati University expelled three students from the institution, one for life and the other two for a year.

The order, scribed on 28th May and dealt out to the students on 31st of May, said that Milton Handique was to be permanently expelled from the university with immediate effect while the other two accused, Rajaul Karim and Writtick Saikia, would be expelled from the university for a year.

Milton Handique, upon receiving the expulsion letter, fell ill and had to be admitted into a hospital where he is currently in convalescence.

Handique was accused of anti-varsity activities after he posted a 'derogatory' post on Facebook pertaining to the leaking of question papers. The other two students had been filing RTI queries in many departments and had allegedly threatened to lock these departments.

However, the three students have denied that their activity was behind the reason for their expulsion. They alleged that the All Assam Students Union (AASU) were behind the varsity's decision.

The order was issued by the varsity when exams were going on.
