New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for celebrating two years of his governance despite the country being stricken with poverty and said that a ‘Congress-mukt Bharat’ was a BJP conspiracy. Sonia also defended her son-in-law Robert Vadra amidst allegations of links with arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari.

The Congress president told the press that the govt should probe the charges and prove Robert Vadra’s guilt in allegations concerning the possession of an unnamed property in London and his alleged links with arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari.

Sonia Gandhi said that the charge against Vadra was a conspiracy by the BJP government. “Probe charges and prove the guilt,” the Congress president said.

The Congress president also slammed the NDA government for celebrating their two years of power in the country. Sonia Gandhi said, “I’ve never seen anything like this; Modi ji is PM not a shahenshah. There is so much poverty in the country. At these times, putting up a show is not inappropriate.”

Arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari was the target of raids by enforcement agencies last month when 18 properties owned by him were searched. News reports claim that during the raids, officials stumbled upon emails linking Vadra to a property allegedly purchased by the arms dealer.

Robert Vadra, through his lawyers, claimed that he had no dealings or connection with Bhandari. The husband of Priyanka Gandhi said that the govt’s only agenda was to target the Vadra family intermittently.
