New Delhi: After much furore over the diesel ban in the National Capital Region, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has now sent the ban notice to at least 11 states in the country.
The NGT bench headed by Chairperson Swatanter Kumar had reportedly directed the state counsels to provide segregated data regarding the most polluted city in their respective states with separate counts of diesel and petrol vehicles.
The Bench, earlier held that bailable warrants will be issued against the chief secretaries of the states if all state counsels are not present with the data as requested, according to the reports.
On the contrary, the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises had, on Monday, moved the National Green Tribunal (NGT) seeking directions on revoking the Supreme Court mandated ban on registration of vehicles beyond 2000 cc citing ill-effects on growth of automobile industry.
The Supreme Court had passed an order on December 16, 2015 banning registration of SUV and private cars of the capacity of 2000 cc and above using diesel as fuel in the NCR up to 31st March, 2016. Subsequently the Supreme Court had extended the ban up to April 30, 2016 and on April 30, 2016 the court maintained the status quo till the matter is taken up by it post vacation.
