Pune: Veteran Bollywood actor Tom Alter on Thursday resigned from the official post of Head of Department of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune.
The Kranti actor resigned after – what is now expected – a rift with the students in the academy. But the FTII downplayed Alter’s resignation and said that the actor could not devote his time to academic activities of the institution.
It is reported that on 23rd May, he had a scuffle with students at the Director’s office following which, the actor threatened resign from official duties.
Bhupendra Kainthola, Director of Pune FTII, confirmed the resignation and said that it was yet to be accepted. “He said he had lot of other commitments and hence was not able to devote his time for academic activities,” said the director.
One of the students under the tutelage of Tom Alter said that the actor had dictatorial ways and wanted 100% attendance from all his students. The individual alleged that the students had to sign a condition where they would attend the classes with joy and excitement and won’t interfere with functioning of the department.
