Mumbai: A massive fire broke out on Thursday evening in Metro House building near Regal Cinema in Colaba, Mumbai. The building also houses a Mc Donald’s outlet.
“We have rescued two people from the fire”, said DCP Manoj Sharma, Mumbai Police.
As per reports fifteen fire tenders were used to control the huge flames.
Some of the foreign visitors who were staying in the affected building, while speaking to media, said that their documents and passports were inside the building but they were not sure if they were safe.
One of the senior officials present at the spot said, that the fire had been contained but it would take another couple of hours to completely douse it.
The problem that the fire fighting team faced was that access to the affected areas was almost impossible as staircases in a few floors were either burnt or in very poor condition.
Reportedly the third and fourth floors were the most affected. These are the floors that house the restaurants.
Thick black smoke was seen billowing out of the top floors of the building. The cause of the fire is still unknown and there is no report of any casualty so far.
Buildings in the vicinity have been evacuated and Colaba Causeway has been closed to the public, as the area has both shops and residences.
The Regal Cinema is an Art deco Movie theatre located at Colaba Causeway in Mumbai.
