New Delhi: Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on Saturday inaugurated the Afghan-India Friendship Dam (Salma Dam) with Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani. In the inauguration ceremony, the Prime Minister said that the new dam would unite Afghanistan and India in solidarity and that both will work along towards progress.

"This dam unites us in solidarity as Chishti Sharif joined us in spirit years ago," said the Prime Minister, and added that India wanted to see Afghan people unite, their economy prosper, and their arts and culture thrive.

"Also wish to see Afghan cricketers play tests and IPL (Indian Premier League)," Modi said.

The Prime Minister stated that the new friendship dam will bring light to more than 250,000 families in the area and added that the dam had not only been built by bricks and mortars, but by "faith of our friendship and valour of Afghans and Indians."
