NGT snubs 5-star hotel on its water usage

Delhi: After a plea alleging that the hotel was illegally extracting ground water came to the fore, the National Green Tribunal has directed the five-star hotel, Hotel Jaypee Vasant in Delhi to submit a report on its water consumption.
A bench headed by Justice U D Salvi has directed Hotel Jaypee Vasant to give details on its water usage through tankers between August and January this year, including the bills, according to the reports. 
The tribunal had last year issued notices to three five-star hotels, Central Ground Water Authority, Delhi Jal Board, New Delhi Municipal Council, Central Pollution Control Board.
The plea pertaining to the matter was filed by Delhi resident Shailesh Singh seeking directions to stop withdrawal of ground water without permission.
Earlier, the tribunal had imposed a fine of Rs 7.5 lakh on one of the hotels after it found "unsatisfactory" rain water harvesting systems in their premises, as per the reports
