New Delhi: The pictures of an idol of Lord Swaminarayan dressed up in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) outfit have started doing rounds on the social media. In the photos, the idol is seen in trademark khaki shorts and white shirt holding the Indian flag.

The news spread after the students of Laskana village school saw the idol wearing Sangh uniform in the school premises.

The Congress party condemned the move. Party leader Shankersinh Vaghela said, “What do you want to prove by dressing up the god in khaki shorts? I pity those who have done that. Today, you have dressed the Lord in RSS uniform, tomorrow you will dress the idol in BJP’s uniform. This is very unfortunate,” Vaghela said.

However, the school authorities denied any intention of endorsing the right-wing ideology. They said that the outfit was gifted to them by the RSS after it organised a camp in the school in which almost 600 students participated.

The state president of the BJP Vijay Rupani also commented on the issue and said, “I am really surprised. If it was done, I do not approve of it.”
