Uttar Pradesh: The small town of Kairana in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh is a crippling monument of what was once a thriving town. Families have been migrating out of their homes to safer locations — largely Hindu families.

Alleging that there have been attacks on Hindu families living in the vicinity, most of the properties owned by Hindus have been deserted and the town is devoid of any dwellers.

Most of the prominent BJP members claim that the Akhilesh Yadav government is patronising violence and under their rule, criminals are taking advantage of the lawlessness in the state. Shrikant Sharma, a BJP member, said that Hindu families had been targeted and driven out of their homes.

But the locals who are more vary of the situation say that the town constituted of both Hindu and Muslim families. The local individual alleges that because of two or three murders in the area, the residents had decided to abandon the land.

Many are comparing this migration of Hindu families to the plight of the Kashmiri Hindus.

The BJP government on Sunday decided that it will send a 9-member committee on June 15 to Kairana to conduct probe and investigate whether it was particular Hindus who were driven out of their land.
