Jammu: The mobile internet services on Wednesday were suspended in Jammu following violent protests in the region on Tuesday. An ancient temple in Roopnagar area of Janipur was allegedly vandalised by a “mentally-disturbed” man, leading to violent protests in the region.
"The protest turned violent in Jammu last night. Protesters torched vehicles, gheraoed police station & clashed with police. Many of them were under the influence of alcohol and tried to attack the police station. So we resorted to mild lathicharge and tear gas shelling to disperse them," District Magistrate, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh said.
The police said that they have arrested the person involved in the desecration of the temple and the situation is under control now.
