New Delhi: Assam Pradesh congress committee (APCC) president Anjan Dutta passed away on Thursday morning at AIIMS hospital in New Delhi. He was suffering from pneumonia and high blood sugar.
 
“He died today (Thursday) morning at 7.15 a.m. and his body has been sent to the mortuary now,” a senior doctor from AIIMS said.
 
Dutta was admitted to the AIIMS intensive care unit on May 24. 
 
Congress President Sonia Gandhi expressed deep shock and grief over the sad demise of Shri Anjan Dutta. Extending her condolences to his wife and daughters, Sonia Gandhi said that in the passing away of its President, not only the Assam PCC, but the entire Congress Party had lost a leader committed to the people.
 
Dutta has served as the transport minister and was also a member of the Assam Agricultural University.
 
Earlier, he headed the chair of the president of Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee and also served as the Chairman of North East Youth Congress Co-ordination committee.
