Kochi: A migrant labourer from Assam who was arrested in connection with the horrific rape, mutilation and murder of a 30-year-old Dalit woman from Kerala, will be produced in the Perumbavoor court on Friday.

The 23-year-old man identified as Amiyur ul Islam, was picked up from Tamil Nadu near the Palakkad border. The police also said that the man was living and working in the area around the home of the woman.

On Thursday, Islam was brought to Aluva where all the top police officers were present.

The 30-year-old LLB student was found dead on April 28 at her home in Perumbavoor in Ernakulam by her mother Rajeshwari, who works as a casual labourer. Her body bore injuries in a way that gave rise to suspicion that she was raped before being killed.

Islam had taken part in the construction of the victim's home, and they were in touch and allegedly had some verbal duel over the construction.
