New Delhi: The suspected Hindu exodus has been confirmed as true by the probe conducted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh's Kairana.
The 9-member committee sent by the BJP to probe into the matter revealed on Friday that there had indeed been a mass exodus in the town of Kairana in Uttar Pradesh. Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code has been imposed by the magistrate which prohibits a gathering of more than 10 people in an area.
BJP MP Sangeet Som, after arriving in Kairana, stated to reporters that the BJP government was with the people of UP and that they "won't let UP become Kashmir". Other BJP party leaders came out to censure Som over rallying in Kairana as such a gathering of inhabitants could lead to riots.
However, Shamli District Magistrate Sujeet Kumar quashed the findings of the BJP and said that only 3 families in the region had shifted because of the fear of rising crimes. The DM also said that 67 families had shifted in a span of 10 years and that 343 other families had shifted for other reasons.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) member Manoj Jha said that the BJP was trying to instigate the people into rioting. He exclaimed that he will not let the BJP turn Kairana into another Muzzafarnagar.
Samajwadi Party leader and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has denied any signs of Hindu exodus in Kairana and has stated that it is all a conspiracy of the BJP to effectively contest in UP.
