New Delhi: Delhi Metro has proved to be a boon for commuters in the city, effectively slashing time spent in commuting. But the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation may soon hike up the prices of tickets; in fact prices might be doubled to reach the cost of the skyrocketing expenditure the government has to spend in maintaining the network.
The committee which fixes the fare in Delhi metro has recommended that the minimum fare, which is Rs 8, to be increased to Rs 15. For the maximum fare which is Rs 30, the committee has recommended that the price be increased to an astounding Rs 80.
This is in response to the increase in expenditure pertaining mainly to operating expenses and repayment of loan to Japan. The recommendations are believed to be submitted to the DMRC in the next two months.
