New Delhi: Congress party faced a legal notice over the tweets posted on its official handle.

The grandnephew of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar has reportedly sent a notice to Congress party president and vice-president. He alleged that some of the tweets posted on the handle in the month of March were defamatory to the RSS ideologue.

One of the tweets read: “Bhagat Singh waged war for Freedom from British Raj, VD Savarkar begged for mercy , to be a slave in British Raj.“

The Congress is yet to make any comment on the matter.

In September 2015, Shiv Sena has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding Bharat Ratna for Savarkar. The letter has been written by Shiv Sena MP, Sanjay Raut, in which he lists out reasons for conferring the highest civilian honour on Savarkar.
