New Delhi: After the phone tapping scandal of prominent businessmen and bureaucrats splashed national headlines, the Prime Minister’s Office is now seeking for reports into the tapes.
Prominent businessmen in the country like Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani, several cabinet ministers and many bureaucrats’ phones had been alleged tapped by the Essar Group, revealing all the murky deals and the blurring of lines between the government and private companies.
The news of Essar Group phone tapping had first been leaked by The Indian Express and Outlook magazine, which alleged that there was a “widespread peddling of influence in corridors of power, corruption in business milieu, brokering of deals and blurring of lines between business and government.”
Responding to the PMO’s order, the Home Ministry said that it had conducted a probe on the Essar tapes and the report was ready to be sent to the PMO.
