New Delhi: The Madhya Pradesh government didn't laid to waste even a minute of the VVIPs to standard experiences when it served up a dinner to over 240 VVIPs in silver crockery and presented gifts worth several lakhs to their spouses.
The attendees to the state programme were 240 VVIPs which included justice T S Thakur and other judges from the Supreme Court. The programme was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee.
The information about the event, disclosed by social activist Ajay Dubey, points at an expenditure of Rs 6.94 lakhs of the taxpayer's money for the state dinner. The dinner, hosted on April 14, was laden with foods worth Rs 3.37 lakhs and silver crockery worth Rs 3.37 lakhs.
This lavish expenditure on the VVIPs by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government has been criticised for using the taxpayers’ money for unneeded expenditure. The social activist said that he was not against the dinner, but was protesting the gifts and silver crockery catered to the judges.
President Pranab Mukherjee had, on April 16, inaugurated the 'Fourth Retreat of the Judges of the Supreme Court'.
