New Delhi: A cruel tale of forced subjugation broke out on Wednesday when a 19-year-old girl who had been forced to drink 'phenyl', a toilet cleaning substance, in spirit of ragging inside the campus was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
A first year BSE student at the Al Qamar Nursing College in Karnataka was subjected to a horrific ordeal by some seniors in the campus when she was forced to consume the chemical which is used to clean toilets.
When the girl reported of suffering from severe stomach ache few days after, doctors discovered that her internal organs had been injured and her larynx had been damaged due to the consumption of the chemical.
Eight students have been arrested in the case which is being suspected as an attack on the marginalised people in the community. The kins of the victim have alleged that the college tried to bury the incident so that undue attention is not paid to this controversial issue.
In reported interpretation, ragging in India is a damaging form of interaction of the seniors in college or school with the juniors, new entrants or first years.
