New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president EVKS Elangovan on Saturday resigned as the party chief. According to reports, Elangovan's unsatisfactory performance has been cited as the main reason for his resignation.
"Our party's state unit chief submitted his resignation on June 15 itself as electoral results were not on expected lines," party functionary Sivaraman, a close confidant of Elangovan, told reporters.
However, the TNCC president said that his decision to quit was voluntary.
The news was confirmed by the TNCC spokesperson Gopanna and he said that party has not accepted the resignation yet.
"So far they haven't accepted it. We are also not aware about when there will be a communication from them on the status of his resignation, "Sivaraman said.
Elangovan was appointed as the TNCC chief in 2014.
