New Delhi: Calling upon the people, the Indian Railways has decided to give senior citizens the option to forego the railway concession that they are entitled to on purchase of reserved class tickets.

As per railway sources, the rail reservation form will now have an option for senior citizens to tick on the ‘no concession’ category.

Earlier, a senior citizen would automatically get the concession after providing their age proof, but now they have been given an option of giving it up voluntarily.

The senior citizen’s concession is 50 per cent for women passengers and 40 percent for men. The cut-off age for availing the concession 58 years for women and 60 years for men.

At present it is the senior citizens, sports awardees and cancer patients who avail ticket concessions.

After the government approached people to give up subsidy on LPG, the Railway seems to be going on the same track asking people to voluntarily give up the subsidy on rail tickets.
