New Delhi: K Gopalakrishnan, the father of 24-year-old techie S Swathi who was murdered on Friday at Nungambakkam Railway Station in Chennai said that those who witnessed the crime acted as mute spectators.

"The only agony I can share is that people present at the station acted as mute spectators. She was lying in a pool of blood for more than 2 hours and no one turned up. Even the policemen reached the spot late. It was shocking for me and raises questions about the security of other woman commuters," the victim's father said.

Gopalakrishnan said that people need to change their attitude. He also revealed that his daughter was being stalked by someone.

"Every time police cannot be there for the citizens, the people should show courage and come forward," he added.

The incident took place on Friday at around 6:30 when the victim was waiting to board a train for work.

My agony is people were mute spectators

On one side, killing people for "vengeance & love" is being justified in all movies and Tamil cinema is NO exception. On the other side, under the disguise of " modernism & law will take its course", Tamilians, at least in metros are loosing traditional quality to protect any suffering person. Tamils are supposed to be "fearless & fierce people" and every male in that scene ( i wonder whether they are) were mute spectators. These sort of guys, will behave same, even if such incident happens to their own sisters or mother. The sickle used in this murder is "Veechu Arval" (viz) Long handle sickle and normally NOT used in farming/ harvesting and used for self protection by certain communities, in southern districts, possibly beyond Trichirapalli. The sickle handle is soo well finished and has "brass Kappu/ Rings) on it and police should be able to easily identify location, such special sickles are made and that could lead to recent buyers or families in possession of same. Then rounding up of 100 odd suspects easy , could locate the murderer. Some thing/ family is holding the police to appear "clueless" !!
