Government employees may strike on July 11 against 7th Pay Commission

New Delhi: Not satisfied with just 23.55% salary hike approved by the Cabinet in the 7th Pay Commission, around 32 lakh central government employees may go on a strike to protest against the proposed hike on July 11. The employees are demanding a pay rise of at least 30%.
Earlier in the day the Cabinet approved the recommendations put forth by the 7th Pay Commission panel, which will impact the salaries of one crore government employees.
In the 7th pay commission, the basic salary of government employees will get a hike of 15% and the overall 7th Pay Commission pay hike stands at 23.55%.
The Union Cabinet took up the Seventh Pay Commission’s report during its meeting on Wednesday wherein it cleared the recommendations of the Commission, leading to a massive 23.5% hike in salaries of over 1 crore government employees and pensioners.
The implementation of new pay scales recommended by the 7th Pay Commission is estimated to put an additional burden of Rs 1.02 lakh crore on the exchequer annually.
The Seventh Pay Commission will change the remuneration of 47 lakh central government employees and 52 lakh pensioners.
