Guwahati: Heavy rains continue to hamper normal life in Assam as around 1 lakh people have been affected by the floods so far.
Efforts are on to evacuate the affected people with the help of state disaster response forces.
Dealing with floods in an effective manner is the biggest challenge faced by the newly-appointed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. The Assam government is looking at the Centre to release a sum of Rs 1,800 crore for the relief work in the state.
Earlier this month, 10 people were killed in a landslide triggered by incessant rains in Arunachal Pradesh.
