Mr Tankha strongly conveyed the message that an MP "is like any other passenger"

New Delhi: Vivek Tankha, newly elected Congress Rajya Sabha member, registered a complaint against private airline Spice Jet flight on Wednesday. The complaint left everyone baffled including the low cost carrier's promoter Ajay Singh.

In the complaint, Vivek mentioned that he was treated like a VIP when he flew from Jabalpur to Delhi on Wednesday.

When the Rajya Sabha MP and another parliamentarian boarded a transit bus, the doors were "abruptly shut" to other passengers and "the three of us were exclusively ferried from the place of de-boarding to the arrivals area."

Mr Tankha strongly conveyed the message that an MP "is like any other passenger" and should expect the same courtesy offered to other passengers.

"As a concerned citizen, I feel that there is no need to extend such extra courtesy to any Member of Parliament or any VVIP/VIP. I found this extra courtesy extremely embarrassing. I immediately requested the ground staff not to extend such VIP treatment to us or anybody else," he wrote in his complaint to the airline.

Vivek Tankha in his complaint also suggested that such a VIP treatments should end with immediate effect; barring if there are some very genuine or compelling security or health reasons.
