Meerut: A tragic incident was reported from Meerut where at least four people lost their lives after an unauthorised building collapsed in Sadar Bazaar area in Meerut on July 9.

According to the reports, the building fell during an anti-encroachment drive in Meerut on Saturday morning when the officials from the Cantonment Board reached the site and asked people to vacate the building which was illegally constructed as per the order passed by the High Court.

However, the residents refused to vacate the building which instigated a brawl with the officials present there. This triggered chaos at the location while the bulldozer was asked to move ahead with the demolition which eventually claimed 4 innocent lives.

The concerned authorities have been informed about the incident and the rescue operation is underway.
