New Delhi: At least five villagers were killed and seven others have been injured on Friday evening during an encounter between police and Maoists in Malapanga forest of Odisha’s Kandhamal district.

Reports said that the villagers were returning to their village while they were going by the forest in Tunudibandh.

The fateful incident occurred in a dense forest when the Central Reserve Police Force, Government of India (CRPF) personnel were busy in exchange of fire with Maoists.

Meanwhile, security forces launched search operation in the area.
