New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be doing voluntary religious service at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on July 18, after the party hurt the sentiments of Sikhs. The Aam Aadmi Party leader and Lawyer HS Phoolka tweeted saying, “Kejriwal Ji will perform Sewa at Sri Harmandar Sahib.”

“Like a humble ‘sewak’ (servant) and true ‘aam aadmi’, Kejriwal ji will perform ‘sewa’ at Harmandar Sahib, Amritsar, on July 18,” Phoolka said in a statement which Kejriwal re-tweeted.

AAP stirred a huge controversy by hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community when the picture of Harmandar Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, was placed along with AAP’s election symbol broom in their youth manifesto.

AAP leader Ashish Khetan has been booked on charge of hurting religious sentiments of the Sikhs by equating the manifesto with Guru Granth Sahib, the Bible and the Gita.

As per reports Arvind Kejriwal will do ‘sewa’ at the ‘Langar hall’ (community kitchen) and also at the ‘Jora ghara’ (shoe storage area) of the Sikh shrine, which gets thousands of devotees on daily basis.

Ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) activists protested against AAP’s insensitive act. Activists held protests in Amritsar and Jalandhar, demanding strict action against AAP. CM Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal both condemned the act and accused AAP leaders of hurting the religious sentime1nts of the Sikhs.

Arvind Kejriwal will be visiting the Sikh shrine for a second time within a fortnight. He began his three-day Punjab tour on July 3.
