Mumbai: A shocking on-going sex racket was exposed on Saturday when the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of Thane police arrested a local woman from Kalyan for allegedly running a sex racket.
The accused was later identified as Shobha Galmadu, who is a Shiv Sena leader from Ulhasnagar. Working on a tip, the AHTC on July 9 nabbed Shobha Galmadu who was visiting Durga Palace lodge with a client.
As per the Police reports, Shobha Galmadu (40) was allegedly running prostitution operations in Kalyan, Badlapur and Ambernath for the past two years and extorting money from sex workers. The AHTC unit also got their hands on Suresh Shetty and Vinod Yadav, the manager and a driver employed with the Durga Palace lodge which is situated near Birla College in Kalyan. The police have also rescued two women and seized cash worth Rs 59,000.
The AHTC’s PI Ravindra Daundkar said, “We received a tip about Galmadu’s illegal business activities a few days ago. We were told that she had visited Durga Palace lodge with a client. We laid a trap early in the morning and arrested her while she was in possession of cash that she had received from her client. She was distributing money to girls and hotel workers at the time.”
As per reports, Shobha Galmadu would allegedly demand Rs 5,000 from all the under-privileged girls working under her and paid them only Rs 500 or Rs 200. Police sources added that Shobha Galmadu is posted at organiser post of ladies wing of Shiv Sena party in Ulhasnagar.
All three accused were booked and arrested under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections of 370(2)(3).
However, after hearing about Shobha Galmadu's arrest, Sena city president Rajendra Chaudhari in his statement claimed that after learning about Galmadu's activity, party had removed her a year ago from the party and had informed the police about her.
