New Delhi: Taking place on Saturday evening, an AIADMK councillor was hacked to death by a 3-member gang at Manali Zone in Chennai around 5.45 PM.

The councillor of the city corporation was at a shop of a man named Tundaram when two men wearing helmets approached Gnanasekar. A man without a helmet joined the other two and told Tundaram not to raise an alarm. After threatening the shopkeeper, the men then attacked the councillor with weapons, killing him instantly at the spot.

Gnanasekar, who was earlier the panchayat president of Manali town representing the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was in the real estate business. It is suspected that the incident was related to a land deal which had gone disarray.

Police claim that the attackers were hired hit-man and might have travelled all the way from Mumbai to target Gnanasekar.
