A businessman's home in Salt Lake was looted by a gang at gunpoint and fled with cash and jewellery

New Delhi: A gang of eight men looted a businessman's home at gunpoint and fled with cash and jewellery in Salt Lake, Kolkata on Friday.

Reports said that the gang planned to rob Amarnath Chakraborty's house when it was empty.

However, most of the residents were still at home when the robbers struck in the posh township.

The incident took place at around 8.10 pm when Namrata Chakraborty opened the door to go out. A masked man allegedly caught her by surprise and held a machete to her throat.

He pushed her back inside and seven others barged inside the house and threatened everyone with machetes.

The family members claimed that there was no way they could resist the robbers.

They said the gang worked like clock-work to loot whatever they could lay their hands on during the 30-minute ordeal.

They took away expensive pieces of jewellery and cash belonging to the family.

Amarnath had moved into the Salt Lake house with his family two years back. He did not employ any security guard nor did he set up any CCTV camera in the vicinity of his house.

Police have questioned five persons but the culprits are still at large.
