3 buried alive as wall caves in

Karnatka: A tragic incident was reported from Koramangala locality in Bangalore where three construction workers died and one was severely injured after the compound wall of the adjacent building caved in.

The deceased were later identified as Ishafir, 26, and Rukchand, 24 — both residents of West Bengal — and Shivainga, a resident of Koramangala.

The concerned authorities immediately rushed to the spot to investigate the matter. However, removing the mud and debris turned out to be a tough job and labourers from other sites were also roped in to help with rescue operations.

During the rescue efforts, one of the injured was rescued from the debris and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. The others suffocated to death till the time help arrived. Earthmovers were used for the retrieving operations.

RM Ajay, inspector, Koramangala station, said, "We got to know about the incident around 6.45 PM. A case will be registered against the property owner, who is out of town."

Following the incident a house in the neighbourhood was also evacuated as it was at risk due to all the heavy digging nearby. Two commercial complexes, a house and a three-storeyed apartment were at risk as the wall that collapsed was adjacent to these buildings.

BBMP commissioner Manjunath said the construction was being “illegally” done. “Before construction the plan should be approved and the design should be displayed. The building construction had started without the BBMP approval,” the commissioner said.

The entire matter is being investigated.
