Srinagar: Amid tension in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir between the protesters and security forces three hand grenades were hurled at the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday evening. The grenade attack injured four security personnel. However one of the grenades did not explode.
Curfew was imposed in Kashmir Valley on Sunday to maintain the law and order situation in the state.
Violence erupted spontaneously in south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam and later spread to other districts in the valley after security forces killed militant and top Hizbul commander Burhan Wani and two of his associates in Bamdoora (Kokarnag) village of Anantnag district on Friday.
Burhan Wani was buried in his native Shariefabad (Tral) village on Saturday where nearly 40,000 people gathered defying curfew restrictions to attend his funeral prayers.
During a high-level meeting at the Home Ministers residence, HM Rajnath Singh spoke to J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti to take stock of the security condition in the valley. He offered ‘all possible support’ to Mehbooba Mufti after the death of 16 people in widespread clashes between security forces and demonstrators protesting against the killing of a top Hizbul Mujahideen leader, Burhan Wani.
