New Delhi: Arvind Panagariya could be the next Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor, post the departure of the current RBI chief Raghuram Rajan, whose tenure will end on September 4 this year.
Reports suggest that Panagariya has emerged as the front runner for the job. He is currently serving as the vice chairman of Niti Aayog. Arvind Panagariya also heads the government's main economic advisory body and is summit negotiator for India's Group of 20.
Arvind, is someone who is known to be close to the ruling establishment as far as the BJP-led government is concerned and the government feels that he is one who is well suited for the job.
It is expected that a formal announcement of the decision to elect Arvind Panagariya could be made in the next 48 hours.
