New Delhi: In a recent development, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered a ban on diesel vehicles that are over 10 years old in Delhi.
The NGT has asked to impose the ban with immediate effect and enforce action against defaulters. The NGT has already banned the use of diesel cars that are over ten years old in Kerala.
Overall, the Tribunal has plans to ban the decade old diesel vehicles plying on the roads in 15 cities.
Earlier, the government had banned the registration of new diesel cars with engine capacities over 2,000 cc in New Delhi and Kerala. Following the ban, the carmakers went up in arms protesting the decision. Some, however, brought in small engines for the existing diesel cars while others have the plans in the pipeline.
