Inauguration of Petrapole ICP by PM Modi-Sheikh Hasina to boost bilateral trade

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated on Thursday 21 July the Petrapole Integrated checkpost which is the biggest land port in South Asia through video conferencing. 
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Inauguration of Petrapole checkpost will not only promote bilateral trade but also help in economic growth of both countries.”
“8 such integrated check posts along Indo-Bangladesh border to be set up in times to come,” said PM Modi.
In an outreach to Bangladeshi citizens, during the occasion, PM Modi also said, “I extend Eid greetings to Bangladesh Prime Minister and citizens. I condemn terror attack on Eid congregation in Kishoreganj.”
“India stands with Bangladesh in its fight against terrorism and will extend all possible help in this regard,” Modi added. 
Petrapole is the Indian side of Petrapole-Benapole border checkpoint between India and Benapole of Bangladeshnear Bongaon in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Being the largest land customs station in Asia, Petrapole border is the only land port in south Bengal.
Being of significance importance, the landport alone accounts for nearly 60 per cent of the bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh.
