New Delhi: Three lawyers have been booked by the Delhi police for inciting riot and causing injury in the Kanhaiya Kumar courtroom case where onlookers created pandemonium inside the courtroom to thrash the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student.
Earlier this year, Kanhaiya Kumar catapulted into national and international fame when he was booked and arrested by the Centre for sedition that eventually lead to furious debates on what constituted as ‘anti-national’ activity.
Several lawyers gathered outside the Patiala House Courts chanted ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ while trying to manhandle the security around Kanhaiya Kumar. The furious protest even spilled inside the courtroom where the JNU student was allegedly threatened by one of lawyers who walked scot-free out of the courtroom.
The document has charged Vikram Chauhan, Om Sharma and Yashpal Singh for rioting and causing harm to journalists and other individuals while Kanhaiya Kumar was being taken to court.
“The three lawyers had formed unlawful assembly with their common objective to attack Kanhaiya Kumar using criminal force and threatened journalists with dire consequences and even destroyed their personal property,’ mentioned the chargesheet.
The Bar Council of India (BCI), after taking cognizance of the case, had told the apex court to set up a panel to probe the case.
