Chennai: In an unfortunate incident, at least 10 people were killed and almost 33 injured on Sunday after a private bus collided with a container lorry in Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.
Soon after the incident, the injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
Assistant Sub Inspector of police Rohini Priyadarshini said, “The lorry heading towards Krishnagri collided with the bus when the lorry was coming out of a median opening of the highway.”
Meanwhile, Minister for Animal husbandry P. Balakrishna Reddy, visited the hospital to assess the situation.
The frequency of traffic collisions in India is amongst the highest in the world. A National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report revealed that every year, more than 135,000 traffic collision-related deaths occur in India.
Tamil Nadu ahs recorded the highest number of road accidents for a decade and its capital Chennai has more accidents than any other city in India.
According to the Indian government data, almost 70% of road accidents in India occur due to driver error.
