New Delhi: Aam Aaadmi Party MLA Naresh Yadav, who was booked for Malerkotla Quran sacrilege earlier this month, was arrested by the Punjab police on Sunday. Punjab Police sources said that Yadav, who is the AAP legislator from Mehrauli, was arrested from Delhi and was being brought to Punjab where he will be produced in a court in Malerkotla town, 100 km from Chandigarh.

A team of Sangur police had reached Delhi on Sunday to arrest Naresh Yadav after obtaining arrest warrants from a court in Sanghur.
Yadav was booked when the alleged mastermind of the case, Vijay Kumar said that the desecration was done on the behest of Naresh Yadav and that he was offered Rs 1 crore for carrying out the act.
Vijay Kumar also said that he had a meeting with Yadav in Delhi where the AAP MLA asked him to tear the pages of Quran and throw them near a drain on Khanna road in Malerkotla, Punjab.
Naresh Yadav has been booked under 109 and 153-A sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
