New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday allowed a woman to terminate her pregnancy as medical examination suggested abnormality in her foetus. The petitioner, a rape victim from Mumbai had sought permission from the Supreme Court to terminate her 24-week pregnancy.
The court accepted the request after a medical board said that her life was in danger because of the multiple abnormalities in the foetus.
The report that was submitted in the court said that the stomach of the foetus was uncovered and as a result, the intestines were growing outside it. The report further said that the foetus’s skull too was not fully developed, and holds chances of its survival were from zero to a few hours.
The woman had moved the court after the doctors had refused to terminate her 24-week pregnanacy.
