Minor alleges sexual harassment in Jadavpur University; Facebook post goes viral

Kolkata: Jadavpur University is making headlines yet again. An undergraduate student of the English department has alleged charges of sexual harassment and molestation against a student of the same year.
The girl has also claimed that she had filed a written complaint against the accused last year in August but even after the authority’s stern warning the accused did not mend his ways and has repeated the same offence time and again.
In a post on the social media platform which has gone viral and has more than 50,000 shares, the victim claims that after lodging the complaint last year, she could not confide to anyone and shared her pain on Facebook.

The victim, along with a few other girls who have gone through a similar experience, also claimed that the accused has a few other associates from other reputed universities who would indulge in harassing these girls.
However, sources revealed that no written complaint was lodged by the victims who have posted the conversations on the social networking sites. "A group of students had approached the department to lodge a formal complaint but they went back to re-think and assured us to return on Tuesday. The victim however was not a signatory. Instead her friends had approached the university seeking redressal," a senior JU authority told a leading daily.
Sources also claimed that there was no written complaint by the girls last year. "She approached some teachers and asked for steps to be taken which were done immediately. She seemed to be satisfied. Now if a written complaint is given to the university, we will look into it immediately and take necessary steps."
