New Delhi: Nita Ambani, wife of business tycoon Mukesh Ambani has joined the league of India's most protected people which now has 450 people.
Nita Ambani has been given a 'Y' category security cover which means she will be protected by 10 armed commandos at all times.
The Home Ministry gave Nita Ambani the security cover after there were reports of kidnapping threats for her. The 52-year-old business woman travels a lot for her charity work.
Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries chairman, has a 'Z' category security cover which was given to him in the year 2013 when the government agencies accessed some information about potential threat against India's number one businessman. ‘Z’ category security has 20 armed commandos with a fleet of vehicles.
There reasons given for security covers to people not from the political fraternity is that the personal security guards cannot perform their jobs well as they are not well equipped with sophisticated and high calibre weapons.
Expressing agony over this decision by the Home Ministry, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Twitter took a pot shot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He wrote, “Women raped daily in Delhi. No security for them despite repeated requests. But PM providing security to his friends."
