New Delhi: After the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party led by Bhim Singh filed a petition seeking the intervention of the Governor under section 92 in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the Supreme Court on Friday quashed the petition and asked Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar to submit report on the strife-torn situation in the state.
The petition which was filed after violent waves of protest swept the Kashmir Valley after the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani, it states that the state is in “total chaos, anarchy and disorder in the entire valley of Kashmir”, adding that the Governor’s rule under section 92 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir should be imposed.
The petition also asked for directions from the Governor to dissolve the Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir pertaining to its inability to function without an impasse present.
Violent clashes between security forces and protesters in the valley have resulted in more 3,000 civilians and personnel being injured while marking a civilian death toll which has already crossed 40. Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had earlier called for an all-party meet on the unrest.
