Bengaluru: Protesting against the Tribunal’s interim order rejecting Karnataka interim’s petition seeking sharing water of Mahadayi river with Goa, the pro-Kannada and farmer associations called for ‘Karnataka Bandh’ on Saturday.
All schools, colleges, government offices, commercial establishments remained shut.
The state witnessed huge protests on July 28, when Karnataka’s petition regarding Kalasa-Banduri Nala project, a drinking water project was rejected by the tribunal.
The Mahadayi river, which flows into Goa from Karnataka, is a lifeline for the people of Goa as 52-km of its stretch is in its state. Due to this, Goa has objected over sharing its water with Karnataka.
The tribunal rejected the plea citing various reasons including ecological damage that may be caused by the project.
