New Delhi: In Tamil Nadu, a minor girl suffered critical burn injuries after a 32-year-old man set himself ablaze and hugged the girl allegedly after the girl rejected the stalker's proposal.
G Senthil was an unemployed youth who professed his love to a minor girl, and when the girl repeatedly spurned his proposals, he set himself on fire and hugged the girl to take her down with him. The girl was admitted at JIPMER hospital in Puducherry.
According to police, this is not the first time Senthil has attempted suicide. A year ago, he had allegedly tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of an approaching train.
Police said that the stalker had lost his limbs: a hand and a leg in the incident. On Saturday afternoon, Senthil had visited the girl's house in Villupuram armed with a five-litre petrol can and a knife. The victim's younger sister and brother were at home when the incident took place. The parents had gone out.
At knife point, he forced the victim's brother and sister to stay inside a room and locked them up. He then doused himself with the petrol and set himself on fire. Neighbours who heard the ruckus immediately approached the victim’s house.
The girl's parent had lodged a police complaint against Senthil before; the man was arrested but was later released by the court.
